LOUIS ARMSTRONG
(Aug. 4, 1901 - July 6th 1971)
Louis Armstrong (aka 'Satchmo' or 'Pops') was a bandleader, soloist, movie star, entertainer, and one of the greatest jazz musicians of all time. Armstrong rose from dire poverty in New Orleans to become one of the most famous men in the U.S. Armstrong's influence on jazz and popular music is virtually immeasurable, thanks to his musical gifts (as a singer and trumpet player), brilliant technique, seemingly effortless skill, sheer energy, and charismatic stage presence.
