Cheshire Cat

The Cheshire Cat is one of the iconic characters in Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. The cat appears and disappears at will, vexing Alice with absurd comments. At one point, the cat disappears until nothing is left but its grin, prompting Alice to remark that she has often seen a cat without a grin but never a grin without a cat. Condemned to death by the Queen of Hearts, the cat causes all of its body to disappear except for its head, sparking a debate about how one could execute a head.
