The Queen of Hearts is a short-tempered monarch, quick to decree a death sentence at the slightest offence. Carroll described her as 'a blind and aimless Fury.' Her most memorable line, and one which she repeats often, is 'Off with their heads!' The original drawing is the work of Sir John Tenniel (1820 -1914) a well known cartoonist in his day.
