DANTE ALIGHIERI
(c. May 18 - June 17, 1265 - September 13 or 14, 1321)
Dante Alighieri is considered the greatest Italian poet and one of the most important authors of the Middle Ages. After the death of Beatrice, his ideal love, Dante devoted himself to classical philosophy and Provençal poetry. Exiled from his native Florence for political reasons, he composed The Divine Comedy, a poetic and philosophical masterpiece, where he imagines his own journey through afterlife, guided by the poet Virgil and by Beatrice.
